How to Find Out If My Old Accessories Work With My iPhone 3Gs
The shape of the case on the iPhone 3GS physically is a little thinner and smaller than every iPhone that came before it. As a result of this, certain accessories that worked just fine with your older iPhone may not work at all with your 3GS. However, other accessories continue to work because the actual device input on the bottom of the iPhone is the same.
Step 1: Place your iPhone 3GS onto a docking station or into a device, such as a case, car mount or other similar accessory. Some accessories that are designed to the specifications of the case dimensions on older iPhones likely don't work with the iPhone 3GS, but this is not universal. If your iPhone feels loose inside a case, won't stay in a car mount or doesn't fit on a dock, the accessory doesn't work with your iPhone.
Step 2: Check for your iPhone's battery to charge. If your older accessory is designed to provide some type of power connection to your iPhone 3GS, such as an FM transmitter, car charger or other similar accessory, it also charges the iPhone's battery. If the iPhone 3GS seems to fit onto the accessory but the battery doesn't immediately begin to charge, the accessory does not work with the iPhone.
Step 3: Push the data cable connection into the data cable port on the bottom of the iPhone 3GS. Any older accessory that isn't designed to work with the case of the iPhone and plugs into the bottom should have no problems working with an iPhone 3GS or even a newer model, such as the iPhone 4.
Iphone 3G - Black screen
Yesterday I had a very annoying problem with my Iphone 3G. Suddenly when trying to get it out of it's standby mode it shortly lighted up and froze. Just plain dead. I couldn't get it to respond anymore.
I regard the Iphone as the best mobile phone I have ever had. With all the different applications you can download from the appstore it's getting even better and better. Sound quality is also better than I ever wished. The only bad point is the battery life. But this is about the same with all other phones as well, when you are using push email on the phone.
But despite beeing good, a frozen iphone is not good. If you have to rely on your phone, for example when using it for business, this can be a real issue. You have to be sure that the phone works all the time. It is not allowed to freeze.
When my phone froze, I was afraid that the iphone was really dead. That it wouldn't work anymore and I would have to get a replacement, which of course would take several days... I was very happy when I found out how to solve the problem with the frozen iphone. Nonetheless this is unacceptable and should not have to happen.
I tried to press all buttons and all combinations of them, but nothing helped. When I came home I connected it to the electricity net, but that also didn't help. No reaction. Completely frozen.
Finally I connected it to my computer and realized it did get a connection to Itunes. That's good, but doesn't really solve the problem of the frozen iphone. Still the display was black.
If you get the same problem, here is what helps:Connect the Iphone to your computer. Make a backup of everything on the Iphone.Press Power and the "square"-button at the same time. Hold them pressed more than 4 seconds. While still pressing the square-button, let the power-button go. Hold it for at least 10 seconds (I had to hold it longer)Itunes comes up and connects to your Iphone.Make a restore. Be sure you make it as fast as possible, otherwise the Iphone is going to lock up again.ITunes will take you through the procedure of restoring. You will get all your contacts, sms, emails, programs and more reinstalled.
I found it very annoying... if it happens when you are a long way from your computer, you have no telephone! I hope Apple will solve this problem as soon as possible.
iPhone 4S Users Guide
The iPhone 4S replaced the iPhone 4, featuring many improvements over the iPhone 4, including Apple's A5 chip and a new operating system, iOS 5. The 4S also includes Siri, a voice-activated personal assistant, and the iMessage free messaging system. The iPhone 4S has numerous features you'll want to learn how to work with, in addition to basic processes like placing phone calls.
Step 1: With the 4S's built-in Wi-Fi, you can connect to available networks to browse the Web at higher speeds than you can achieve through your carrier's 3G network. To connect to a wireless network, tap the "Settings" home screen icon. Then tap "On" next to "WiFi." Tap "WiFi" and then tap the network to which you want to connect. Enter the security key or password, if requested. Turn Wi-Fi off when you aren't using it to preserve battery life.
Step 2: Siri, a voice-activated personal assistant built into the iPhone 4S operating system, answers general questions and helps you find driving directions and information about restaurants. To open Siri, tap and hold the iPhone's Home button. Tap the speaker icon on the screen and speak your question or request. Siri responds after the phone processes your voice.
Step 3: You can sync an iPhone 4S to iTunes to transfer and back up apps, games, music, movies and photos. To get started, connect your iPhone 4S to your computer and open iTunes. Click the iPhone's name under the "Device" sidebar and tap "Sync." Click "Eject" when the syncing process completes.
You can also sync the iPhone's content with your iTunes account without hooking it up to the computer. To do so, connect the phone to the computer and select "WiFi Sync" under the "Device" column to turn the feature on. After ejecting and disconnecting your iPhone 4S, you can wirelessly sync it by tapping "Settings" then "General." Tap "WiFi Sync" and then tap "Sync Now."
To sync by Wi-Fi, the iPhone and the computer must be connected to the same wireless connection.
Step 4: Apple's iMessage feature on the iPhone 4S lets you send free text messages to any person using an iOS 5 device. To get started with iMessage, tap the "Settings" icon and then tap "Messages." Depending on your settings, you may be prompted to enter your Apple password. Verify that the icon next to "Messages" reads "ON." If not, tap the icon to turn the iMessage feature on.
Open the green "Messaging" app on your home screen. Tap the "Write" icon in the upper right corner of the screen to compose a new iMessage. Input the user's email address or telephone number, compose your message and send it. If the user isn't using an iOS 5 product, you'll be given the option to "Send as SMS."
How to Set the iPhone Wallpaper
Wallpaper on a computer or cell phone adds a nice, decorative touch, just as it does in your home. Traditional computer wallpaper often portrays images of sandy beaches, falling autumn leaves or other scenes of nature. On the iPhone, you can set the background to similar pictures, or you can personalize your wallpaper by using photos downloaded from your computer.
Step 1: Plug the included USB cable into both your iPhone and your computer. The iTunes program will automatically open.
Step 2: Check the box to sync photos between your iPhone and your computer. This information appears on your computer screen when iTunes opens.
Step 3: Use the photo pane to sync the iPhone with pictures you may want to set as wallpaper. They can be in iPhoto, Adobe Photoshop or individual folders within your computer.
Step 4: Point your iPhone at the item or person you want to photograph.
Step 5: Tap the camera icon with your finger and hold the iPhone steady as the picture is taken.
Step 6: Name the picture file so you can easily retrieve it to set it as wallpaper.
Step 7: Click the "Photos" icon. Some icons may be hard to determine from the pictures on them, but are clearly marked underneath.
Step 8: Select the picture you would like to set as your iPhone wallpaper.
Step 9: Tap on the button that looks like an arrow inside a rectangle (a checkbox) and choose "Use as Wallpaper."
Step 10: Size the wallpaper photo by manipulating it back and forth within the touch screen until you have your desired shape and size.
Step 11: Touch "Set as Wallpaper" to create your wallpaper.
Step 12: Choose wallpaper from a selection of pictures already installed in iPhone if you do not want to use your own. Go to "Settings" and pick "Wallpaper from Home Screen" to select an image.

The 5 Best iPhone 4 External Battery Devices
iPhones, including the new i4s, are notorious for short battery life. You don't need to be a power user to run your phone down before the end of the day. If you are a power user, you are certainly going to need some kind of back up to get the most from your phone.
The neatest and most reliable way of extending battery life is to use an external battery. These can be small units that push onto the bottom of the iPhone. They can be the sort of separate device that will recharge your iPhone battery using a USB cable.Phone cases that include an external battery are also available. Each approach has advantages and disadvantages. The push on external batteries means you don't have the mess of cables to think about but they are low on extra capacity. The case with battery included is very neat and secure- but only if you want to use a case at all.The external batteries that use cables are more versatile and will power a lot more devices- like the iPad, iPod, many other smart phones and game consoles. It's not difficult to lose these, though!iPhone 4 Battery CasesNo Amazon products foundsplash O2 Lite Rechargeable Battery CaseIf you are looking for a case to protect your iPhone 4 or i4s and you want to boost battery life this is the perfect solution.
The 1700 mA (milliamps) of juice that the case stores is a lot smaller than the New Trent device below, but it does add up to several hours of talk time.
In practical terms for someone who uses their iPhone 4 a lot- for games, movies, with bluetooth and so on, this will mean the difference between getting through the day and a dead phone mid-afternoon!
The case is extraordinarily slim and best of all there is nothing extra to carry around, plug in, lose or leave at home!Mophie Juice Pack Air Case and Rechargeable Battery (Black, Verizon and AT&T iPhone 4)Amazon Price: $39.94List Price: $79.95Mophie Juice Pack Air Case for iPhone 4
If a rechargeable battery case appeals to you the Mophie Air case is also worth checking out. There is a choice of colors- red, white, yellow or black. It is also one of the most well fitting and stylish battery cases around. It is even certified by Apple as a compatible device- a rare, acknowledgement.
The 'soft touch' finish is appealing in the hand and, of course, there is full access to all ports. There is no need to remove the case for charging.
It can add around five hours of browsing on 3G networks or nine on Wi-Fi.

Evernote Tips on a Slider iPhone
Evernote is an Internet service that lets you capture and work with stored snippets of data from a computer or mobile phone interface. The iPhone Evernote app allows you to save audio recordings, pictures and other data directly to your Internet Evernote storage. After using Evernote on your iPhone as a mobile data capture tool, you can organize your stored information from your iPhone or from the Evernote application on your computer.
Step 1: The slider on the iPhone unlocks the phone after it has automatically locked. Apple's iOS 5 provides single-tap access to a camera button for taking pictures without unlocking the phone; if you need to take a picture quickly, you can go directly to the camera app to take your picture, and use the Evernote app later to upload images from photos you have already taken with your iPhone. Otherwise, you can put the Evernote app on your home screen or iPhone Dock for quick access; a swipe-and-tap will then bring you into the Evernote interface as quickly as possible.
Step 2: Evernote on iPhones using iOS 5 have two different methods of capturing dictated notes: You can record audio notes directly from the Evernote interface, which uploads to your Evernote storage, or use Apple's Siri dictation mechanism to dictate an email from within the Siri interface. Every Evernote account has a special email address to which you can email data directly to your Evernote storage; if you add it to your address book, you can tell Siri to send an email to Evernote, and then dictate the contents of the note without ever touching the iPhone's keyboard.
Step 3: Evernote provides an API for other third-party application developers to post information directly to an Evernote account. This integration must be enabled by the app developer; Evernote maintains a list of iPhone apps that have Evernote integration on its website. In most cases, tapping the share button onscreen brings up the share dialog, and tapping the Evernote button posts the displayed information directly to Evernote.
Step 4: Evernote has its own additional applications that work directly with your Evernote storage, such as Evernote Hello, which allows you to track people you meet by capturing a photo of them with your iPhone, then tagging the photo with other information. Evernote will automatically add location and time data to the photo; for example, if you meet a number of people at a working lunch, Evernote will automatically track when and where you met them. You can use audio notes or email dictation to add your own notes to these contacts, and Evernote can track acquaintances you don't know well enough to add to your address book.
Step 5: Evernote automatically provides optical character recognition scanning to any photos you upload, and the iPhone camera is high-enough quality to act as a mobile scanner. If you have papers that you wish to save to your archive but don't want to carry them around, the Evernote app can take pictures of the text of each page. The original picture will be uploaded to your account, but Evernote also provides a searchable index of the text it can recognize on each page.
How the Smartphone Competition Beats the iPhone 4S Specs
To say that the Apple release of iPhone 4S was a disappointment is an under-statement. The release of the iPhone 4S, rather than the expected iPhone 5, follows its upgrade of the iPhone 3 to iPhone 3S before going to the iPhone 4 model. Essentially this decision is driven by the 2-year contracts most people have on their iPhone 4's, with 12 months still to run. Most people will not want to pay the exit fee to get out of the contract.
However Apple is in danger of being swamped by its rivals who are simply Out-Teching Apple with superior specs of the various hardware components. It remains to be seen how the performance of the iPhone 4S compares once the new model is released and has been tested. Apple is relying on what's inside the new iPhone 4S. It's much harder to convince buyers to buy based on what's inside while the specs fall by the wayside! The table below is a comparison of the iPhone S with four competitorsDroid Bionic, latest 4G smartphone offering from Motorola.Samsung Galaxy S II, the latest in the popular Galaxy line.Samsung’s Focus an older model that runs Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango)RIM’s most recent offering, the BlackBerry Bold 9900.The Processor - The Samsung Focus and the Blackberry Bold only have single core processors which are simply left far behind by the dual core models. The Droid Bionic and iPhone 4S, both contain 1-GHz dual-core chips, but the Samsung Galaxy S II has a slightly faster a 1.2 GHz dual-core chip.

Fix a broken, unresponsive or sticky iPhone Home Button
If you're unfortunate enough for you iPhone or iPod touch's home button to become sticky, unresponsive (takes a few click of home button to work) or broken (won't work no matter how many clicks) there may be a solution without sending your iPhone/iTouch back to apple for repairs:
The only tool you will need is a toothbrush - yes that's right a common toothbrush. This personally reolved the problems with my Home Button.
1) Press on the side or top of your home button so part of it is depressed2) Press the bristles of the toothbrush hard into the depressed area - some bristles will slip underneath the home button and clear any blockage that may be inside your iPhone/iPod.3) Use circular motions with the toothbrush while slowly moving your finger around (following with the toothbrush) to explore the entire circumference of the iPhone's home button. This method will (depending on the source of the problem) at least improve the responsiveness of your iPhone's home button at at best fully fix the problem!

How to jailbreak your iPodiPadiPhone in a couple of minutes
Hi there Apple product owners. Today I'm going to show you a very easy and fast way to jailbreak your iDevice. First of all, what is a jailbreak?
As wikipedia says,
"Jailbreaking is a process that allows iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch users to install homebrew applications on their devices by unlocking the operating system and allowing the user root access. Once jailbroken, iPhone users are able to download many extensions and themes previously unavailable through the App Store via unofficial installers such as Cydia, Rock Your Phone and Icy Installer. A jailbroken iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch is still able to use the App Store and iTunes.
Jailbreaking is different from SIM unlocking, which, once completed, means that the mobile phone will accept any SIM without restriction on, for example, the country or network operator of origin. Jailbreaking, according to Apple, can void Apple's warranty on the device, although this is quickly remedied by restoring the device in iTunes."
Okay, now that we know what is a jailbreak, we can start working.
Important!
This method works with these devices:iPod Touch 1G on iOS 3.1.2iPod Touch 1G on iOS 3.1.3iPod Touch 2G on iOS 3.1.2iPod Touch 2G on iOS 3.1.3iPod Touch 2G on iOS 4.0iPod Touch 3G on iOS 3.1.2iPod Touch 3G on iOS 3.1.3iPod Touch 3G on iOS 4.0iPad on iOS 3.2iPad on iOS 3.2.1iPhone 3G on iOS 3.1.2iPhone 3G on iOS 3.1.3iPhone 3G on iOS 4.0iPhone 3G on iOS 4.0.1iPhone 3G[S] iOS on 3.1.2iPhone 3G[S] iOS on 3.1.3iPhone 3G[S] iOS on 4.0iPhone 3G[S] iOS on 4.0.1iPhone 4 on iOS 4.0iPhone 4 on iOS 4.0.1If your device is on the list, let's get started!Step OneWhat is the best thing about this jailbreaking method, is that you don't even need a computer. All you need is:
A compatible iDevice (see list above)
Wi-fi or 3G/EDGE connection
A little bit of time
So, first of all, open the Safari browser and type in http://www.jailbreakme.com. It looks like this:
How to Disassemble the iPhone
Apple's iPhone is a type of smartphone that allows users to text, make calls, surf the Internet, perform tasks and play games with hundreds of different applications. The iPhone features a touch screen that covers its surface and is easily breakable, so great care must be taken if you decide to disassemble your iPhone.
Step 1: Insert the paper clip -- or your SIM card removal tool if you have one -- into the SIM tray and remove it. Unscrew the screws on either side of the bottom of the iPhone with your screwdriver.
Step 2: Insert a putty knife in the crevice around the side of the iPhone and pry the back panel up carefully. Lift the two attached ribbons up and out from the inside of the iPhone.
Step 3: Remove the three screws on either vertical side of the iPhone with your screwdriver. Gently pull the motherboard out of the back with your fingers and pull out the red ribbon attaching it to the back.
Step 4: Remove the battery with your fingers, then remove the screw underneath it with your screwdriver. Remove the camera from the top of the phone, then remove the remaining screws -- two on the top right, seven on the left side.
Step 5: Pry out the headphone jack and dock connector, using your screwdriver or putty knife for leverage if necessary. Remove the remaining screws on the sides of the iPhone, taking care as these hold in the liquid-crystal display screen. Lift out the LCD, leaving the screen lying flat on the table.
How to reboot iPhone if pressing power+home buttons failed
What if you found your iPhone screen cold, dark and no response when you press home button? Your friends might say "Do the hard reset. Press power and home button for at least 6-10 seconds".
No luck! I see the apple logo, but in seconds it's back to the deep sleep. What should I do?
First, don't be panic. Your iPhone is completely OK. It might be caught in the bootstrap error or might be crashed because you just installed a new app. Calm down and just follow the step by step instruction.
Step 1: Before you start, it is recommend to have your computer freshly started. Sometimes USB in idle computer might fail to 'awake' which can cause connection or device recognition error.
Step 2: Run iTunes in your PC or MAC. Make sure it's completely running and not in the loading or upgrade process. Connect your iPhone's cable and wait for few seconds before proceeding to the next step.
Step 3: PRESS and HOLD power button (on the top) and home button (in the front) in the same time for at least 6-10 seconds. Theoretically should be 10 seconds, but it's all trial and error until you get the right timing.
Step 4: Once you see the connection image as shown in the picture, release the power button, BUT KEEP HOLDING the home button.
Step 5: In seconds, you will hear beeps from your PC or MAC, follow by iTunes showing displaying request to restore. Release the home button and follow the recovery process.

How to Set the Sync to Manual on My iPhone
The Apple iPhone functions similarly to the iPod in its synchronization, or sync, process. Syncing transfers content such as music, videos, applications, podcasts and photos from iTunes to an iPhone. The process also creates a backup copy of the iPhone library in the event you lose content or require a factory restore of the phone. By default, the iPhone forces you to sync apps manually, but when dealing with music and videos you can set the sync to manual or automatic.
Step 1: Connect the iPhone USB cable (included with the device) to the iPhone, and then to a computer. The small connector slides into the computer's USB port, and the long rectangular connector plugs into the iPhone.
Step 2: Open iTunes on the computer; it is available on the Apple dock (along the bottom or left side of the desktop screen) for Mac OS X users and on the "Start" menu for Windows users. Apple uses iTunes for iPhone synchronization, so make sure to keep the latest version installed on your PC or Mac (see Resources for the link).
Step 3: Click the iPhone image, which appears just beneath the "Devices" heading in the left column of the iTunes window. You will then see a series of tabs and options pertaining to the iPhone.
Step 4: Place a check mark in the box labeled "Manually manage music and videos." If a check mark appears in the box, the iPhone was previously set for manual sync. If the box is not checked, click it once with the mouse.
Step 5: Click the gray "Sync" button in the lower right corner of the screen to manually sync content to the iPhone. You can do this anytime you want to update the music and videos on the phone.
Step 6: Click the "Eject" icon directly to the right of the iPhone image in the left column, then disconnect the iPhone from the computer.
Can I... No, you Cannot Use GSM iPhone with Verizon CDMA network, buy Verizon iPhone 4 (jailbreak and unlock won't help)
"Can I use iPhone on Verizon?"
This question was asked everywhere all the time. I see it at least once a day on Yahoo! Answers.
The short answer: no!
The long answer: No. Existing iPhone (any version) are HSPA (GSM), which is NOT compatible with Verizon's CDMA2000 network AT ALL. But you can buy iPhone 4 CDMA in February 2011.
On January 11, 2011, Verizon has announced a version of iPhone 4 (still called iPhone 4) for its CDMA2000 network. It has some subtle differences from the GSM version. It will be available in February 2011.
You can NOT take your GSM iPhone and use it on a CDMA network, or vice versa.
Let me explain why. DefinitionsGSM - Global System for Mobile (communications), a popular mobile phone system standard around the world, widely used in Europe and Asia, covering possibly 80% of mobile market. (see wikipedia for more info)
CDMA - actually CDMA2000, it is a mobile phone system standard around the world, popular in the US. It uses the technique called Code Division Multiple Access but also other techniques (see wikipedia for more info)CDMA vs. GSMApple's iPhone, all 4 generations of them, are GSM phones, and thus only talk to GSM networks. The only exception is the newly announced iPhone 4 for Verizon, which is CDMA.
GSM network is only one type of mobile network out there. The other type of network is CDMA2000 (or just CDMA as it is sometimes known).
In the US, AT&T and T-Mobile uses GSM.
Verizon and Sprint uses CDMA2000.
GSM phones, (which includes all iPhones except this just announced CDMA variant) is physically incapable of talking to CDMA2000 network, and thus, cannot be used on Verizon or Sprint. Unlock and Jailbreak an iPhoneWhat if I jailbreak the iPhone or update the iOS?First, we have to define what Jailbreaking is.
Jailbreaking an iPhone means rewriting some of the firmware and the iOS so you gain access to settings that are normally not visible as a user.
When you buy an iPhone from Apple or AT&T, they are "locked" to AT&T as the carrier, and will not work with a non-AT&T SIM card.
If you jailbreak the iPhone, it will unlock the phone from AT&T exclusivity, allowing you to use other GSM carrier's SIM card, such as T-Mobile.
However, the transceiver inside iPhone is a GSM transceiver, and is physically NOT CAPABLE of doing CDMA2000, whether you jailbreak or not.
Thus, jailbreak has no effect on whether iPhone will work on Verizon or not.
Similarly, updating the iPhone to latest iOS has no effect as iPhone just does NOT have the hardware to talk CDMA2000 inside, no matter what firmware you use. Verizon Wireless LogoWill Verizon get the iPhone? It just did. On 11-JAN-2011, Verizon officially announced it is getting iPhone 4 for its CDMA system.
Previously, I had made predictions on what sort of phone this would be. There are 3 possible versions of this alleged iPhone 4C. No one knows which one will be the actual release.
Possibility A: Verizon is supposed to debut their 4G network, known as "LTE", in 2011. The new Apple iPhone 4C will be 4G/LTE compatible, making it a threat to Sprint's HTC Evo 4G. In that case, the phone may actually be named iPhone 4G instead.
UPDATE: A recent comment by Verizon head (as documented by Engadget) said that LTE has drawn Apple's interest and helped Verizon land the iPad (bundled with a MiFi mobile hotspot) in Verizon stores would imply that Apple is very interested in Verizon's LTE network.
Possibility B: the iPhone 4C will just be a CDMA version of iPhone 4, but with support for the latest revision of CDMA2000 / EV-DO Rev A / VO which supports simultaneous voice and data (something CDMA2000 had NOT had before)
Update: This story was broken by Wall Street Journal to be a CDMA only phone specifically for Verizon.
Possibility C: the iPhone 4C will be a dual-mode "world phone" that supports both GSM and CDMA2000, like the Motorola Droid Pro or the Blackberry Tour. So will it be called iPhone 4W instead? The WSJ story specifically denied that the new phone is a dual-mode phone. So this possibility has a low rating.
I bet on Possibility B myself in October 2010... 60% for B, 30% for C, 10% for A.
However, with the additional update, I'll revise to 40% for A, 40% for B, and 20% for C in November 2010.So my prediction for "probability B" was correct all along. My revision in November was rather dumb.
How to Get a Refurbished iPhone
Whether an Apple iPhone is your social statement, a must-have style accessory or simply a phone option with the design and functionality that best fits your lifestyle, a refurbished model may be the most cost effective way for you to check the iPhone off of your wish list. Here are the easiest ways to procure a refurbished iPhone.
Step 1: Regularly visit the "Special Deals" area of the Apple Store by following our link in the Resources section. Click the "Refurbished iPhone" tab to check availability.
Step 2: Call or visit your local authorized Apple dealer as authorized dealers are likely to acquire refurbished products before regular retailers.
Step 3: Purchase a refurbished model through an online marketplace like Amazon. Amazon lists pricing for new, used and refurbished models. Simply click the "New and used" underlined blue link and select the "Refurbished" tab to review a list of refurbished models, prices and sellers.
Step 4: Bid for a refurbished model through an online auction site. Keep in mind that many sellers on auction sites, unlike authorized dealers or the Apple Store, may not offer a return policy should you decide, after you win an auction, that you would rather own a new or different model. Check with the seller before bidding and also review the seller's "Feedback Score" to see whether other bidders have had a positive experience with the seller you are considering.
How to Drain an iPhone Battery
The Apple iPhone battery is touted as being able to last up to 300 hours on standby, 5 hours of talk time and 5 hours of Internet use, but programs and additional features can cause the battery to drain at an accelerated rate. The fastest way to drain your battery is by turning on applications that frequently search for other devices such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth features. Other battery draining applications include the Push notification feature, which syncs your iPhone to your computer by sending information every 15 to 30 minutes, depending on your settings.
Step 1: Unlock your device by pressing the "Home" button and sliding your finger across the screen. Tap the "Settings" icon and tap the "Wi-Fi" tab. Slide your finger across the switch so that it reads "ON." Slide your finger across the switch on "Ask to Join Networks" to read "ON."
Step 2: Tap the "Settings" tab in the upper-left corner to go back to the previous window, and tap the "Brightness" tab. Slide the tab all the way to the right for full brightness. Tap the "Settings" tab to go back to the previous screen.
Step 3: Tap the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" tab. Tap the "Fetch New Data" tab and slide your finger across the "Push" tab so that it reads "ON." Tap "Every 15 Minutes" under the "Fetch" section.
Step 4: Tap the button in the upper-left corner twice to return to the main "Settings" window, and tap the "General" tab. Tap the "Bluetooth" tab and slide your finger over the switch to read "ON." Tap the button in the upper-left corner to return to the previous window.
Step 5: Tap the "Auto-Lock" tab, and tap the "Never" tab. Press the "Home" button to return to the main menu.
How to Repair an iPhone Digitizer
Step 1: Take out the two screws on the bottom of the iPhone and remove the SIM card by poking the SIM tool into the hole in the top of the phone.
Step 2: Press down the suction cup from the digitizer replacement kit onto the glass and firmly pull it up. Carefully lift glass up without pulling out the wires, keeping the back and front pieces attached.
Step 3: Pull up the ribbon cable using a small screwdriver and separate the LCD from the back of the phone. Remove the small screws along the sides of the LCD frame.
Step 4: Peel off the black gasket tape from around the LCD, behind the glass front. Run the metal tool between the LCD and the metal frame rails along the sides to allow you to pry the glass and LCD apart.
Step 5: Set the LCD aside without touching the front with your fingers at any point. Place the glass panel, with the back facing up, down on the table.
Step 6: Apply heat from a hair dryer around the edge of the glass and pry the frame off the glass. Start on the lower edge of the panel and slowly work your way around using the metal tool.
Step 7: Peel off the stickers that came with your replacement digitizer and place them on the front of the frame, along the top and bottom. Make sure the stickers you put on each end fit the shape of the frame before pressing them down.
Step 8: Remove the front adhesive from the new stickers and from the back of the new glass and digitizer.
Step 9: Place the glass down on top of the frame with the stickers and press it down. The digitizer should go in through the middle of frame and stick out the other side when the glass is pressed down.
Step 10: Set the LCD back into the frame with the new glass and digitizer and screw it together. Reconnect the ribbon cable and close the phone up before putting the screws and SIM card back into place.

Why People Will Continue Jailbreaking After iPhone iOS 4
Many reasons over the past couple years have motivated people to jailbreak their iPhones. One of the biggest reasons has been muti-tasking and with that now being added to the new iOS 4 lets look at some of the reasons people will still jailbreak
Customization
One of the cool things you can do with a jailbroken iPhone is modify just about everything. The clock and weather app can show live weather and actual time, you can apply custom themes to make your phone look unique and you can even change the carrier logo to just about anything. Another cool thing you can customize is the voice mail and text tones. The new iOS will let you put custom wallpapers on the springboard but that's about it for customization.
Tethering
One of the biggest reasons people will jailbreak no matter what is internet tethering. Tethering allows you to use your phone as a internet connection for your computer and only recently has been allowed on the iPhone. But the added cost combined with the fact you would have to drop your unlimited data plan to get it leave many people looking for alternatives. That's where a jailbroken device comes in handy, you can tether without a specific plan but if you get caught be prepared to lose you cell service. I have never heard of this happening but it's probably best not to start downloading movies nonstop to find out.
Cydia
This app store is only on jailbroken phones, it features all the apps Apple doesn't want you to have. Recently a developer made an app to let you wirelessly sync your iPhone to iTunes, Apple told him while he wasn't breaking any rules they were still rejecting his app. Now you can find that app on Cydia, along with apps for tethering, SSH, and many others. Most apps are free on Cydia but some will cost you.
Free Is Always Cheaper Than Not Free
One of the biggest reasons people jailbreak and will continue to jailbreak is free apps. Through a program called Installous that you can add after jailbreaking you can get almost any app for free. While many of the true developers say they only use this to "demo" apps to see if they should buy them, many people just outright steal them. When you can get a $100 GPS app for free that alone motivates many to jailbreak.
iPhone on T-Mobile
Yes with a jailbreak and unlocking tool you can run your phone on T-Mobile's network. While I don't understand why you go through all that trouble to run your phone on T-Mobile many people do it, now if you could get it to work on Verizon that would be different. This may be one of the hardest to execute things to do on an iPhone (just ask anyone with 3.1.3 software) it is something many do not just for T-Mobile but for pre-paid carriers as well.
The Downside
While you may have your phone jailbroken and packed with cool features and Cydia apps their still are many downsides. First whenever a major software update you have to have comes along you will have to install it, rejailbreak (if software is available to do so) and reload all your jailbroken apps and tweaks. Another problem that may arise is damage to your phone, while it may not be software related damage Apple and AT&T won't touch it because jailbreaking automatically voids your warranty. The other problem you may encounter is while loading some jailbroken software your phone may lock up and become bricked leaving you with a $300 paperweight.
Overall
Someone will always find a way to jailbreak and people will always find an excuse to do it. iOS 4 has already been jailbroken for a couple months with Redsn0w 0.9.5 software. While the new iOS 4 adds a lot of great features, for many jailbreakers it won't be enough, especially for iPhone 3G users who with the update will still be unable to muti-task unless they jailbreak. Now myself I'm still undecided whether I will jailbreak when I inevitably get an iPhone 4, but at least I know what I'd be getting myself into. What do you think? Is jailbreaking wrong or are you reading this right now on your jailbroken iPhone?

Something Rattles Inside My iPhone When It Rings
Some iPhone users have reported a rattling problem in their phones. This rattle can be heard when the phone rings, whether normally or in vibrate mode, or when the iPhone is shaken or tapped. Reports occur with several different models of the iPhone including the 3GS and 4S iPhones. If your iPhone is rattling, take a few minutes to diagnose the problem and consider all options before investing time or money in repairs.
Step 1: Perform an Internet search to see if other users with the same model iPhone are experiencing a similar problem. Several iPhones models have rattle problems that users say allegedly stem from design flaws. Contact iPhone Support online or visit an Apple Store to see if you can exchange your iPhone for a replacement. Alternatively, perhaps your phone was dropped, causing a component to break loose inside the case. Look for other signs that might validate this diagnosis, such as damage to the exterior. Whatever your diagnosis, decide if this is a problem you are willing to tolerate or if you choose to do what it takes to get rid of the rattle.
Step 2: Your iPhone may still be under warranty. Contact iPhone Support to see if your rattle problem is covered by warranty. If it is, you may not be able to simply return your iPhone to the store where you bought it; you may be required to mail it to Apple for repairs. If you just purchased your iPhone, consider also buying an extended warranty that lengthens and extends the warranty to problems that are not normally covered. Extended warranties are available in Apple stores, as well as online from third-party vendors.
Step 3: If your iPhone is not covered by warranty, locate a reputable cell phone repair service. Search online or in your local phone book for businesses that specialize in fixing iPhones. Read reviews about these businesses and contact the Better Business Bureau to verify their credibility. If you don’t mind spending a little extra cash, and if you want to make sure the job is done right the first time, utilize Apple’s repair service.
Step 4: If you have a few tools and a sense of adventure, open up the iPhone and perform a little electronic surgery. Online guides can help you. Perhaps you will find a loose screw or a broken part that can be removed or repaired. Be aware that opening the device could void your warranty.

NEW iPhone 5 (6 gen.) - coming October 2012
The sixth generation of Apple's vaunted iPhone—the iPhone 5—is expected to arrive in Apple stores worldwide in October 2012, approximately one year after the launch of the iPhone 4S. Google's Android, nipping at its heels for years, is expected to overtake Apple's iPhone in market share this year, putting Apple on the defensive. If there ever were a time for the iPhone to woo and wow potential buyers, now would be it. The iPhone 5 should continue the biennial pattern of issuing a major overhaul the year after a more evolutionary model, like the 3GS and 4S.
With every new iteration, the questions on everyone's mind are:What's new? (What are the new added features?)What does it look like? When does it come out exactly?Launch date change: Apple is reputedly trying to make the iPhone more attractive as a holiday gift item, so has begun in 2011 to launch the new iPhone in the fall, as it has done with the iPhone 4S. A fairly new iPhone is hot and not impossible to buy in late November or December, and will have not been upstaged by the latest Android phone by then. Expect October launches for iPhone from 2011 onwards.
While there is some speculation that the iPhone 5 might be available in the first half of 2012, that is unlikely. The popularity of the 4S suggests that Apple doesn't need to shorten the lifecycle of the iPhone just yet, and there is some speculation that the iPhone 5 might be released on October 5, in commemoration of Steve Jobs, who passed away on this day in 2011.
How to Take Apart and Put Together an OtterBox Defender Case for iPhone
OtterBox iPhone Defender cases provide an incredibly high level of protection for your iPhone. OtterBox cases feature three levels of protection: a screen cover, a hard plastic shell that wraps around the body of your iPhone, and a rubber shell that wraps around the hard plastic shell. A Defender case is an effective means of keeping your iPhone out of harm's way.The only downside is that although these cases are easy to put on your iPhone, they can be a bear to remove.
Step 1: Clean your iPhone with a soft, silk cloth. Also use the cloth to clean and dust off the screen on the plastic shell of the OtterBox.
Step 2: Set your iPhone inside of the lip on the bottom of the plastic OtterBox shell. The lip on the bottom of the plastic OtterBox shell will also have two holes at the bottom that line up with the speakers on the bottom of the iPhone.
Step 3: Slide the bottom part of the other section of the plastic shell onto the upper part of the lip. Press the shell into place so that the seven points where the shell snaps into place are locked in.
Step 4: Wrap the rubber shell around the plastic shell you just snapped on. Fit the little rubber pieces on the sides into their respective holes in the plastic shell. Make sure the rubber bump for the power button is situated correctly.
Step 5: Pull each of the rubber nubs connected to the plastic shell surrounding your iPhone out very carefully so you don't tear them off. Gently position your fingernails under the rubber skin and start to separate it from the plastic shell. Work your fingers around to either the top or the bottom of your iPhone so you can lift up on the rubber shell and pull it over either the top or bottom of your iPhone and remove it completely.
Step 6: Wedge a butter knife or a letter opener beneath the top left plastic case connector. Place one of your fingernails or a butter knife or a letter opener under the plastic case connector on the top of the iPhone. Gently start to pull the connectors away from the phone. The connectors will eventually become disconnected, and you will be able to loosen the other connectors more easily. Eventually you will be able to remove the part of the plastic case without the lip.
Step 7: Remove your iPhone from the lip of the plastic case that is holding it.
JAILBREAK DO'S AND DON'TS (applies to iphone 4s)
You should NEVER get a tethered jailbreak even if there is no other way to go. When you tether your device you can't turn it on unless you have a computer with you at all times (most don't).When your device is tethered you shouldn't have a passcode because if someone disables you wont be able to do back up your device to do the tethering, it can also cause your device to brick and without a passcode your phone is free to anyone that picks it up.Its better to just go with an untethered jailbreak.
When you jailbreak if you start to experience any different types freezes this usually happens when you download a specific app make sure to delete and re-download it if it still causes problems, delete it and don't download it again this app is defective,if you still really want it I recommend emailing the creator to make an update and fix the bugs.
If you have an UNTETHERED jailbreak and you forgot your passcode you can download disk aid which is the easiest and quickest way to get your passcode back. Instructions on how to use disk aid and where to download it is in the link capsule below.
How to Install an iPhone Housing Plate
Whether your back plate is scuffed and damaged or you’re just looking to change the appearance of your iPhone, installing a new housing plate is easy. The housing plate is a third-party part not released by Apple, the company that manufactures the iPhone. Plates are made from a variety of materials, from bamboo to plastic or brushed metal. Regardless of the material used, the replacement process remains the same. All that’s needed is a small jeweler’s screwdriver and about ten minutes of disassembly and reassembly time.
Step 1: Turn off the iPhone before removing the cover to avoid causing damage to the phone.
Step 2: Remove the two screws from the bottom of the device using a mini Phillips-head screwdriver.
Step 3: Slide the back panel of the iPhone gently upward about 1/4-inch, and then lift the panel from the rear of the phone.
Step 4: Place the replacement housing plate onto the rear of the phone with the two screw posts on the plate toward the bottom of the phone housing, about 1/4-inch from the base.
Step 5: Slide the housing plate downward to cover the cavity completely. Replace the screws into the base of the phone to hold the panel in place.
All About the iPhone Glass Screen and Repair
On this page you will find tons information on broken iPhone glass and iPhone glass repair options. So let’s start at the beginning. How does iPhone glass break in the first place?GA_googleFillSlot("technology_hub_content_250x250");How does the glass on my iPhone break?Shattered glass is unfortunately a very common problem for the iPhone 3G, 3Gs, and 4. In fact, it is perhaps the most common issue that iPhone owners face related to accidental damage. So how does the glass on an iPhone usually break? The outer glass on the iPhone can break for a number of reasons, but broken glass is most commonly caused by the impact from a drop or fall. Even though broken glass is generally caused by a drop, a drop does not always result in broken glass. If you are an iPhone owner, you have likely dropped your iPhone dozens of times and not suffered any damage at all. So what specifically causes the glass to break? Well, as you might imagine there are several factors that influence an impact resulting in broken glass. The obvious influencing factors are the height of the fall and the surface of impact. The higher the fall, the greater the force of impact, the more likely the glass is to break. Similarly, the harder the surface of impact, the more likely the glass is to break. Of course this is common sense; anyone would rather drop their iPhone from 2 feet onto carpet than from 10 feet onto concrete. But what are the other not-so-common-sense factors that affect glass breaking on the iPhone? This is the exact question we took to a South Florida drop test lab. Armed with several iPhones and a high speed video camera capable of recording at up to 15,000 frames per second, we hoped to find out exactly what kind of impact causes broken glass on an iPhone. After a day spent breaking iPhones, we reached two important conclusions. First, a face down drop is the best way to break the glass on an iPhone. Second, glass breaking in high speed makes for very entertaining video. To see some of our drop tests in high speed, check the video below. Unfortunately, is it difficult to watch the glass break in a face down drop test, so only corner drops were recorded. insertVideo('YouTube', 'u3SDy_VO9uY', 'videoYouTubeBig', '', 'video_587772', '');It was surprisingly difficult to break the glass in a non-face down drop orientation. The corner drops seen in the video would only cause a break at high velocity (simulating a 15ft + drop). Also recorded in the video above is a direct glass impact. Test 4 shows a 1.25” steal ball being dropped directly on the screen of the iPhone. This simulates direct impact from a corner of a table or other object if you were to bump it while your iPhone is in your pocket. During this simulation, the glass clearly shatters, however amazingly, the LCD remains completely intact and functional.
It was concluded that drop orientation plays a key role in glass failure on an iPhone. Though we had a difficult time reproducing consistent glass failures in the lab, we admit that our brief tests were far from comprehensive and we have heard from hundreds of customers who have broken their glass from as little as two feet. Glass break is somewhat illusive. Glass does not like to bend, or be contacted by sharp objects. Often the worst impacts are when the phone hits on the front but first contact is on a corner or side. These types of impacts are subtle but cause the phone to twist during impact and bend and often break the glass.Types of Broken Glass on the iPhone 3G, 3Gs, and 4There are two layers in the glass of the iPhone. The outer layer is the glass that is physically touched on the iPhone screen, the second layer is called the digitizer and is responsible for the functionality of the touch screen. The digitizer senses where on the screen the user has touched and responds accordingly. Both of these layers are susceptible to cracks or shattering, however, it is far more common for the outer layer of glass to break. Generally, after the glass has broken on the iPhone, the touch screen continues to function properly as the digitizer layer remains intact. Below are some of the most common kinds of cracked glass on the iPhone.
Cracksare straight or crooked lines extending across the glass. Cracks can extend through the front and back of the glass or just exist on one side of the glass. Cracks can grow, so they should be repaired as soon as possible.
Starbreaksare long cracks extending from a central point of damage. Starbreaks can grow over time and with continued phone use, so they should be repaired as soon as possible.
Bull’s eyesare circular cracks and fractures that look similar to a target of concentric circles.
Chips are usually small indentations in the glass. Chips do not extend completely through the glass and are generally caused by sharp objects. Chips weaken the glass and can predispose glass to cracking. It is recommended that you pursue iPhone repair if your glass is chipped.
Total Shatters occur when the entire surface of the glass has been broken. This is the most serious kind of break and can occur from high velocity impact. Generally, shards of glass will begin to fall out of the phone during use if the glass in not replaced.
